One Million Stars to End Violence

Maryann Talia Pau, the leader of the One Million Stars to End Violence Project, recently visited North to share her experiences with the student body. The project, which she started in 2012, gets citizens involved with fighting violence against women through arts & crafts. Pau’s goal is to reach one million stars by 2018, when she will display them at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

The project started after a tragedy in Pau’s town occurred right around the corner from her church.

“This project really began as a very personal response,” she said, “A young woman was raped and murdered around the corner from our church, and my studio, and it had a huge impact on our community in Brunswick.”

To get involved with the project, students can visit the One Million Stars to End Violence or Lotus Festival websites, where there are tutorials and instructions on how to spread the word.
