An engine built by students of Hoosier Hills Career Center (HHCC) won first place a Dyno Engine competition held at Ivy Tech in Terre Haute, Indiana. This year’s event marked the second consecutive win for a team from HHCC’s automotive technology class.

The team spent several school days and even some time out of class on building the best engine they could.  The rules of the competition had changed from the previous year when teams were allowed unlimited time and three runs.  Teams this year only had one hour and an unlimited amount of times running the engine.  To determine which engine had the highest horsepower and torque, an average of the three highest scores was taken.

HHCC won this year with an average horsepower of 482 and 441 torque. HHCC beat two other schools and their margin of victory was 52 horsepower above second place. Even with the new rules and restrictions, their total score was nearly as high as last year.  In addition to first place in the Dyno Engine competition, last year the team also won first prize at the Dyno competition and Indiana Motorcycle Expo.
