In the Dark, Featuring North
Imagine walking into a dark school building on a regular school day.
North students experienced just this on Sept. 9 when they arrived at school.
The announcements let them know that students needed to go to class as normal and follow the normal schedule until further announcements were made.
Students, with confused expressions, shrugged and navigated their way to dark classrooms and waited for the next update.
Then, at 9:20 a.m., the intercom announced that students were released for the rest of the school day.
Students ran for the doors, shouting and screaming with excitement. Many of them were on their phones, sharing the news with family and friends.
The cancellation was a happy one for most students.
However, some teachers were disappointed.
“Well, the classes that I didn’t have, I’m so behind in those,” math teacher Thomas Hollicky said. “I’m off schedule.”
Students could be seen sprinting from their classes to leave school. However, the excitement was short-lived for some who had to ride the bus home.
“All the buses were sitting there for 45 minutes,” freshman Hendrix Stowers said. “The buses in front just weren’t moving.”
But eventually, they all did get home and enjoyed a surprise three-day weekend.
