Senior Mia Robbennolt became the all-time leader scorer for North Girls Basketball with 1229 points in her career.
“It was a relief, because I have been working up to it all season, and it was nice to know that I had finally gotten there,” said Robbennolt.
On January 30th, in the sectional game against Martinsville, Robbennolt beat the record and became the title holder only 3 minutes into the game. Going into the game she only needed 6 more points but exceeded that with 25 points. The previous title holder Kiley Jarrett, who held the title since 2005, and is now Robbennolt’s coach.
“I was fortunate enough to hold the record for 19 years. Holding the record was special, but what is even more special to me is being able to coach Mia and have her break my record. It was awesome coaching her each game knowing that she would break the record that I held for so long.”
Although she had been working towards this all season, this title was not the original plan for Mia and her senior year playing basketball
“My first goal was just to get to 1,000, then I didn’t realize how close I was until my coach told me, so then I was like here’s a new goal,” said Robbennolt.
After High School Robbennolt plans to continue her basketball career playing for Thomas More University.
Jarrett said, “Mia has worked so hard the past four years to become the player she is today. Many hours spent in the gym, whether by herself or with a coach or trainer honing her skills. Mia also has the right mental mindset. She will succeed in this game far beyond high school.”
