If you didn’t know, this year the BHSN Girls Basketball Team has a new head coach. The team is led by Coach Kiley Jarrett, who was a previous player at Bloomington North herself. She had many accomplishments as a player. She was on the Indiana Junior All Star Team, was able
to play collegiately at Ball State, and was inducted into Monroe County’s Sports Hall of Fame. With all of this experience, she was tasked to lead the team this year.
Jarrett was on the BHSN Girls Basketball team for 4 years from the 2001 to 2005 season. During these years, she was able to help lead the team to winning their third ever sectional championship. She was a stand-out player on the team and helped lead the team to a 74 – 10 record overall of her four years.
After finishing her senior year at North, Jarrett was able to go to Ball State and play basketball. At Ball State she was a Tri-team captain and continued to be a leader of her teammates. After finishing playing at the collegiate level, she knew she needed to get back into basketball.
“Something was missing. I was like well I have to be a part of it somehow and so I got into coaching,” Jarrett said.
Jarrett became an assistant varsity coach of your BHSN girls basketball team last season. You might have seen her cheering on the sidelines or guiding them through a play. This year, though, it was time for her to have a much bigger role.
Over the summer the girl’s basketball head coach position opened up and Jarrett knew she had to go for the job. Being able to be a head coach had always been a dream of hers. Jarrett applied for the job and it was official. She was going to be the new head coach of Bloomington High School North’s Girls Basketball Team.
“It’s definitely a dream of mine and for it to happen this soon. I don’t even have words for it. It’s just exciting and I am so fortunate. I couldn’t be happier to be in the position I’m in,” Jarrett said.
Jarrett has many goals for the girl’s basketball program season. She wants to push the girls and get the program back to where it was when she played here.
“It’s been a long time since we have won a championship here and I hope through my experiences, my coaching style, and the help from the coaching staff, we can get it back to where it once was,” Jarret stated.
It’s not just the coaches who are excited for the new season, it’s the players too.
“I’m really excited. We really want to win this year,” said Audrey Burton, a freshman on the BHSN Girls Basketball Team.
With such an experienced coach, a skilled coaching staff, and great players, the 2023 – 2024 Girl’s Basketball season is destined to be a good one.
